The Clanton City Council approved its 2010-2011 budget Monday.
The budget includes $9.3 million in revenue and $8.6 million in expenditures.
Council members Greg DeJarnett, Bobby Cook, Bobby Easterling and Mary Mell Smith voted in favor of the budget. Councilman Jeffrey Price voted against adopting the budget, saying he would have liked to have had a work session or other meeting to discuss the budget before voting on it.
Mayor Billy Joe Driver said the budget “was a guideline” that could be amended as the year progresses.
The council also voted to cover $11 increases this next year in each employee’s health insurance. The city will pay the increase for all employees, though workers with family policies may still see increases.
The council also tabled an ordinance concerning how the police department staffs officers and their shifts. The council should bring up the issue again at their next meeting.
The Clanton City Council’s next meeting is Monday, Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. at Clanton City Hall.
