Oscar (O.J.) James McGriff, 87, of Verbena died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010.

He was born on Saturday, Jan. 13, 1923, in Henry County, son of the late Leroy McGriff and the late Elizabeth Mason Green McGriff.

He served for 32 years on the Chilton County Board of Education and worked a total of 46 years for Alabama Power Company.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Martha H. McGriff of Verbena; daughter, Mrs. Holley M. Green of Lawley; three sons, Mr. O.J. McGriff Jr. of Tuscaloosa, Mr. Russell McGriff of Clanton, Mr. Glenn McGriff of Jemison; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. at Verbena Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Orr and the Rev. Tony Hughes officiating.
