Maplesville defense still perfect

Four games into the season, and the Maplesville defense still has not been scored upon.

The Red Devils (4-0, 3-0 Class 1A, Region 4) shut out Shades Mountain Christian, 61-0, on Friday, holding the hosts to 27 yards of total offense.

Hunter McCay scored Maplesville’s first two touchdowns on runs of 11 yards and 10 yards, both after Shades Mtn. fumbles.

Anthony Johnson then intercepted a pass and ran it back 20 yards, and McCay closed out scoring in the first quarter with a 1-yard run.

Jared White hit the quarterback and jarred the ball loose, and Brett Connell picked up the fumble and ran 27 yards for a score to make it 34-0.

Matt Snell was good on all but one point-after attempt.

Quarterback Matt Hamner completed an out route to James Madsen, who turned upfield and ran 82 yards for a score.

Next, Brintain Hill scored on a 27-yard run.

Cameron Morrow scored on a 43-yard run, and Demetrius Parker scored on a 20-yard run.

Maplesville threw only five passes. Hamner was 3-for-3 for 111 yards. Johnson completed his only pass attempt.
