CCHS wins first two of season

Chilton County’s volleyball team opened its season with wins over Thorsby and Maplesville on Monday.

The Tigers started slowly in the first match, though, falling to Thorsby, 25-17, in the first set.
CCHS rebounded to take the next two sets 25-23 and 15-11.

In the third set of the best-of-three match, Chilton went up 5-0 with Lauren Stewart serving.
Thorsby (4-3) fought back to within one point of the lead at 12-11, but the visitors closed it out.

Renee Lewis had nine assists in the match, and Rachel Johnston had three kills and three aces.

Stewart contributed three digs, three kills and six aces, and Keondra Looney was good for five kills and two digs.

Jahoya Austin had five kills and two digs, and Keona DeJarnett chipped in four kills and two digs.

Sade’ Archie had five kills and two assists for the hosts.

Jennifer Spivey recorded four kills and two aces. Holly Smith had four aces, and Crystelly Olivos had six digs and two saves.

CCHS defeated Maplesville, 2-0 (25-15, 25-6).

Stewart had five aces, two kills and two assists.
