Due to a shortage of entries in this year’s Peach Festival Cook-Off, the local Alabama Cooperative Extension office has extended the deadline for entries through Wednesday, June 16.
To register, call the Extension at 280-6268 or visit the office located at 504 First Ave., Clanton, by 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Pre-registration is required to participate.
The Cook-Off is Saturday, June 19 in the Thorsby First Baptist Church fellowship hall at 10 a.m. Cash prizes will be awarded in two age divisions: adult (ages 20 and above) and youth (ages 9-19).
The Peach Cook-Off is popular not only among local cooks but the general public as well. A cooking demonstration will be presented while the entries are being judged. After the prizes are awarded, attendees will get to sample each of the dishes, including the prize winners.
Following is a list of guidelines as set by the Extension:
Any dish entered in the contest must contain fresh Chilton County peaches.
There is a limit of one entry per person.
The recipe need not be original.
Judging will be based on using fresh, quality peaches (10 points); appearance (20 points), taste (50 points) and creativity (20 points). Dish can be displayed in participant’s container of choice.
Dish must be registered and on the table ready for judging at 10 a.m.
Must be present to win.
Recipes using raw eggs will be disqualified (such as in ice cream custards). If a recipe calls for raw eggs, cooked custard can be made, or pasteurized egg products may be substituted.
Dish entered in the contest must be made available for participants and attendees to taste at the conclusion of the event.
