One man is still hospitalized and another has been jailed after a shooting in Jemison on May 29.

Napoleon Worthey, 22, of Maplesville turned himself in hours after allegedly shooting Christopher Lamont Simon, 35, of Jemison late on Saturday night.

Worthey has been charged with assault, first degree, or attempted murder. The case is still under investigation.

“We don’t like to have this happen in the city, but it makes us feel good that we’ve got people who can handle it,” Fulmer said about the assistance his department received with the case from several other county agencies.

The incident occurred at Dixon Circle, on the west side of town, and was the result of a dispute over a girlfriend, Jemison Police Chief Shane Fulmer said.

Fulmer said witnesses on the scene were able to identify the suspect and that subsequent conversations with the suspect’s family yielded his surrender to officers.

“We knew who he was–we had witnesses and a good ID on him,” Fulmer said. “I was able to let [relatives] know that there was a chance of retaliation and that we wanted him to turn himself in really for his own safety.”

Worthey is being held in Chilton County Jail on $100,000 bond.

Neither of the men lived at the scene of the shooting. Jemison’s last shooting, on June 6, 2009, occurred at nearly the exact spot as Saturday’s shooting, Fulmer said.

Simon was shot in the chest with what is believed to be a 9 mm pistol, Fulmer said.

Fulmer said Assistant Chief Mark McMinn has stayed in contact with the victim’s family and that, at last report, Simon was still listed in critical but stable condition.
