David Hicks of the Clanton Police Department has been selected as the “Law Enforcement Officer of the Year” for Alabama VFW Posts in District 4.
Hicks was presented the award at the Clanton VFW Post 3193 last week. Hicks was nominated by members of the Clanton Post and was up against officers from counties across the state. District 4 is the largest district in the state. Hicks’ win was the first time in more than 13 years the Clanton nominee won.
“I am in absolute shock,” Hicks said. “Just to be nominated by an organization that is so special by what they do and stand for is an accomplishment in itself. But to actually win such a prestigious award against so many other distinguished officers is total unbelievable.”
Clanton VFW Post Commander Jim Gore presented Hicks the award.
Police Chief Brian Stilwell and Lt. Keith Maddox were present during the award presentation and congratulated Hicks on the award.
Also in attendance were Hicks’ wife, Angie; mother, Edna Hicks; sister, Larita Dennis; and mother-in-law, Susan Belser.
Hicks is now in the running against other district winners for the “Alabama Law Enforcement Officer of the Year” title.
