Chilton County senior Noe Chavez has been accepted into the 365 Sports Summer Training Academy and international tournament program, an accomplishment that could help the soccer player advance his career.
“It will be a big help to go to a better college or maybe going pro,” Chavez said.
Chavez will report to the academy, which is based in Raleigh, N.C., on July 14, and will be trained by former collegiate and professional coaches.
On July 17, Chavez and the other players will depart for Copenhagen, Denmark, and the trip will also include contests in Gothenburg, Sweden.
While in Europe, Chavez will compete in the first round of the Gothia Cup Games against players from all over the world. Chavez and the other academy players will participate in the Gothia Cup Opening Ceremony.
Chavez will return home on July 25.
Chavez played varsity soccer for four years at CCHS. He was team captain for his last two years and some of his sophomore season.
“I think a lot of it was his desire,” CCHS coach Dan Velasquez said about Chavez being accepted into the academy. “The first thing I ever noticed about Noe was he would pick the players that stood out with the ball.
“He just has that knack for the game.”
