CCHS wins area crown

Another close game with Demopolis — that’s been a trend this season.
But Thursday’s come-from-behind nail biter proved extra special — the Tigers earned the title and revenge over the team that denied them the crown last year.
Chilton County won 6-5, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.
“I’m so proud of our team. They played as a team,” said coach Krisi Parrish after the game.
Earlier in the day, Chilton County beat Demopolis, 3-2 in nine innings. Demopolis’ win over Selma set up the rematch. On April 19, Chilton County won the right to host areas after beating Demopolis 8-7 in 12 innings.
“Demopolis is such a good team. Every time we play them, it’s close,” Parrish said.
Had Demopolis held onto its lead, the teams would have been forced to play a second game against one another Thursday.
In what ended up being the title game, Rachel Johnston, April Lewis and Tiffany Crowson were all walked in the bottom of the seventh inning. A double by Brianna Cleckler scored Johnston and Lewis to tie the game 5-5. Holly Watts’ sacrifice fly to right field allowed pinch runner Brooke Lewis to score the go ahead run.
Chilton County’s other runs came in the third inning when Johnston batted in one and a single by Crowson scored two runners.
The Tigers will face a yet-to-be-determined foe Friday at the regional tournament in Troy.
