Katlyn Freeman and Kortisha Morrow scored the runs, and Morgan Little and Lindy Barrett knocked in the runs Thursday in Maplesville’s season opening 9-2 win over Billingsley.

Freeman and Morrow, the top two hitters in the lineup, crossed the plate a combined seven times.

Little and Barrett, meanwhile, recorded seven RBI.

That work was all in support of winning pitcher Courtney Killingsworth, who held visiting Billingsley (1-3) to two runs on five hits and one walk over seven innings while striking out nine.

Billingsley’s Hannah Horton scored her team’s first run on a Maplesville error in the top of the fifth inning, after the hosts already had a 6-0 lead.

Maplesville scored two runs in the first, two in the second, two in the fourth and three in the sixth.

Billingsley’s Keely Powell drove home Mary Beth Walker in the top of the seventh inning.

Summer Gaither suffered the loss.
