The Maplesville Red Devils (8-1, 7-1 Class 1A, Region 3) blew past Holy Spirit (5-4, 5-3) Friday night for a 55-7 region win.
By beating the Titans, the No. 4-ranked Devils secured home field advantage in Round 1 of the playoffs.
Chris Bailey struck fast in the first quarter, returning a kickoff 80 yards. Then, Hunter McCay scored on a 22-yard run.
Holy Spirit’s only touchdown would come in the first, courtesy of James Pereyda on a 21-yard reception.
In the second quarter, Matt Hamner connected with Dustin Stephens, and a short touchdown by Bailey put the Devils up 28-7 by halftime.
After the break, Hamner and Bailey connected for a 31-yard passing touchdown, then Tyler Crumpton intercepted for the Devils.
McCay, Cameron Morrow and Demetrius Parker all scored in the fourth quarter. Morrow also intercepted a pass, and Jarnez Marzette picked up a fumble.
Maplesville coach Brent Hubbert said the Red Devils must be on top of their game next week.
“We’ve definitely got to come out with a little more fire in our hearts and play with a little more intensity and enthusiasm,” he said. “We’ve got to knock out the penalties and become more disciplined on the defensive side.”
The Devils will host their first playoff game Friday night, Nov. 6, after facing American Christian at Tuscaloosa next week.
