The most wonderful time

October has to be my favorite time of year. I love the crispness in the air on those brisk nights when it’s too cool for short sleeves but not quite cold enough for a jacket.
It’s about the time of year when football gets serious (or more serious).
On the high school level, the playoff picture starts coming into focus. Also, is there a place more perfect than Bryant-Denny Stadium on the Third Saturday in October? I’ll admit Jordan-Hare is nice, too, or so I hear.
Halloween is also my favorite holiday, probably just from all the candy that is handed out.
If that’s not enough to love about October, here are some other less known facts about the 10th month of the year from Chase’s Calendar of Events.
As nutty as it sounds, it’s Squirrel Awareness Month, when time is set aside to honor one of the animal kingdom’s smartest creatures.
It’s also National Sarcastics Awareness Month. See above.
It’s also Spinach Lovers Month, National Stamp Collecting Month, National Chili Month, National Roller Skating Month and National Popcorn Poppin’ Month.
On a serious note, it’s also National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
