Panthers 1st in area

The Jemison volleyball team has the best record in Class 4A, Area 7 play after a 3-0 sweep (25-12, 25-15, 25-19) of Bibb County High on Thursday.
The Panthers (20-6) served 91 percent from the line.
Emily Smithey was 22 for 24 serving with 10 aces, and Tabatha Cork was 11 for 12 serving with 10 aces.
Kasi Wells assisted on 17 points.
Wells also led the Panthers with six kills. Shelby Griffin and Cork weren’t far behind with five kills, and Kayla Brasher had four.
Griffin also had one block.
Jemison’s invitational tournament—which will include local teams Chilton County High, Isabella and Thorsby in addition to Calera, Central Coosa, Central Tuscaloosa and Montevallo—will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday.
