The need for blood never takes a vacation, but Saturday your blood donation could send you on a tropical getaway.

LifeSouth will hold a community “Donors in Paradise” blood drive Friday, Aug. 28 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Medico in Clanton.

The need for blood is critical. Between barbecues, vacationing and other events, less people give blood in the summer. This is compounded by the fact the demand for blood also rises in the season.

Everyone who participates will be entered for an opportunity to win a $500 travel voucher.

All blood types are needed, especially negative blood types.

Donors must be 17 or older (16-year-olds may donate with written parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, and show identification.
