Zoning topic of public hearing Tuesday

All Jemison residents are urged to attend a public hearing Tuesday night, Aug. 25 that will address a proposed zoning ordinance for the city.
Present at the hearing will be the Jemison Planning Commission, along with Steve Ostaseski of the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham.
The public hearing will be held in the Jemison High School auditorium beginning at 6 p.m.
“This is something that’s very important to the planning and future of the city,” planning commission member Shannon Welch said. “The city will more than welcome any and all feedback from citizens.”
City leaders have been working to develop the new plan for nearly six months. Welch said the proposed ordinance should not affect any existing land uses, such as the ability to raise livestock on one’s property. The ordinance does create more specific zoning categories, however.
“This will be the first of two public hearings on this,” Welch added.
The date and time of the second hearing will most likely be announced Tuesday night, he indicated.
