Ora Mims Kahn

Ora Marzelle Mims Kahn, age 79, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, following a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Marzelle, a native of Vida, graduated from Chilton County High School. She was a resident of Mobile, Montgomery, and most recently Daphne.
Mrs. Kahn was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Leon Kahn; father, Willie Clark Mims; mother, Ora Owens Mims; brothers, Cecil Mims and Paul Mims.
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah K. Stokes and her husband David of Brewton; Cynthia Kahn McClain and her husband Craig of Austin, Texas; sons, Robert Kahn of Daphne; Fred Kahn and his wife Patti of Fairhope; David Kahn and his wife Terry of Houston, Texas; Mike Kahn of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sister, Mary Gyger and her husband Furman of Brandywine, Pa.; Louise Acker and her husband Richard of Madison, Miss.; brother-in-law, Marvin Kahn and his wife Elsa of Sebring, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Betty Mims of Clanton, Ruth K. Davis of Sebring, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as “Mom-Mom,” Lindsey Kahn, Allen Kahn, Andrew Kahn, Alex Kahn, Grace Kahn, Sadie Kahn, David Stokes, Elizabeth Anne Stokes, Robert Stokes, Rachael McClain, Anna McClain, Reed McClain; one great grandchild, Walker Kaul; and her unconditional love for her nieces, nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held from First United Methodist Church, Brewton, on Monday, Aug. 17, at 4 p.m. Interment followed in Jubilee Memorial Gardens, Daphne.
Her grandchildren will never forget the strength of her love, her zest for life, and the joy she felt in their presence.
The family is very thankful for the compassionate care shown by her caregivers, Juanita East-Allen of Heavenly Sent Caregivers and Caroline Long of Springhill Hospice.
They are very grateful for all her doctors loving care, Dr. Heller and Dr. Brand.
