Goodbye to two good businesses

We recently learned of two local stores that are closing in Clanton’s downtown business district. While not all the reasons for these closings may pertain to the economy, this is not news that we like to hear. Both of these businesses had been in operation for more than 10 years, and their presence will be missed by those who make their way downtown.
We hope downtown Clanton can stay a vital part of our community, not only for the business but also for the appearance. There have been many efforts over the past decade to revitalize the area and beautify our town through landscaping, renovation and the preservation of historic structures.
Needless to say, people have taken notice. It’s great to hear people from out of town comment on the beauty of our city. This makes Clanton a more attractive place to visit, and word of mouth gets around fast. It is hoped that new businesses will locate to these vacated stores soon — businesses that offer goods and services that are in demand here.
When they do, whenever possible, we need to shop locally. In doing so, we will save ourselves time and money as well as stimulate our local economy.
