What Chilton County Tax Collector Tim Little loves about his job is that he gets to see everyone in the county.
“Nobody likes to pay their taxes, but I get to see everyone,” Little says. “I enjoy helping people. I always have.”
But before he was responsible for people’s tax money, he was responsible for 700 cows and calves, most of which could be traced back to two calves he raised on a baby bottle when he was 4 years old.
Little’s father was in the John Deere Tractor business for nearly 50 years, and he grew up in a farming community in the Mt. Pleasant area.
Little and his dad are still involved in the cattle business but not as much, as they own about 100 cattle today.
“My father retired, and I help on the weekends,” Little said. “We just phased the cattle out because I had way too much going on the first couple of years up here.”
He has served as tax collector for six years. Little said he has always been fascinated with politics.
“I love my job. I’ve got the best job in the county,” he says.
Little said the number one issue facing his office is increased responsibility largely due to changing laws pertaining to motor vehicles.
