The driver of a pick-up truck was airlifted to the hospital after his vehicle flipped on County Road 458 Saturday afternoon.
The truck was traveling west toward County Road 32 (Airport Road) around 12:30 p.m. when the driver apparently lost control in a curve just before the dirt road turned into a paved road. The crash occurred several hundred feet from Walnut Creek United Methodist Church.
Gap of the Mountain and East Chilton fire departments were dispatched to the scene. The driver was airlifted at a landing zone near the Peach water tower.
The driver’s identity or his condition was not known as of press time. State troopers are investigating the crash.
Gasoline from the truck leaked into a nearby creek. The Chilton County Emergency Management Agency was called to the scene to prevent the gas spill from going downstream.
This wreck was not the only serious crash in Chilton County Saturday. According to radio reports, a log truck collided with a backhoe on Highway 82 in Maplesville.
There were no serious injuries in that crash.
