The National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) has selected Stephanie Bell of the Alabama State Board of Education, District 3, to serve on the 2009 NASBE Governmental Affairs Committee (GAC), which develops federal policy recommendations and communicates with Congress and Obama Administration officials about the education improvement priorities of state boards of education.
Bell has served on the Alabama State Board of Education since 1995. As a member of the 18-member committee, she will meet with other state education leaders, national policymakers, federal lawmakers, and education reform experts during a series of meetings, events, and communications over the course of this year to share Alabama’s experiences and perspective, analyze federal education initiatives, promote state board of education priorities, and serve as a state education resource to congressional offices and staff.
