Property tax due Wednesday Dec. 31

Published 4:33 pm Saturday, December 27, 2008

The last minute is drawing near for Chilton County property owners who have not paid their taxes.

Property tax is due by Wednesday, but fortunately there are still ways to avoid waiting in a long line at the courthouse.

All you need is a debit card and access to the Internet. Just log on to www.chiltoncountyrevenue.com and pay online.

The other preferred way to pay your bill is by mail. All payments must be postmarked by Dec. 31. Any payments that bear a postmark later than that date will be considered late.

Late taxpayers will face a penalty of an additional $5 per parcel, and after that an additional 1 percent in monthly increments.

The Chilton County Tax Collector’s Office will be closed New Year’s Day and Jan. 2. County offices are open until 4 p.m. on regular business days.

For more information, call the Chilton County Tax Collector’s Office at 755-1249.
