Three girls from Clanton Intermediate School were among 100 girls accepted to the Girls Engaged in Math and Science (GEMS) presentation at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex.
Madison Price, Allie Lightsey and Anna Smith were all excited when they were chosen to take part in the presentation. The University of Alabama Birmingham sponsors the GEMS program. The showcase was held Dec. 5.
The girls’ project focused on how science and art collide in the world around them. The students created works of art that visually defined transparency, translucency and opaque objects in art.
During their visit, the girls met Alabama’s Teacher of the Year, Pamela Harman, and they were featured in an interview on NBC13, CBS42, UAB Campus News, UAB Magazine and The Birmingham News.
