Tim Mims was elected chairman of the Chilton County Commission yesterday by majority vote.
Commissioners voted for Mims 5-1 with Joe Headley opposing and Mims himself abstaining from the vote.
Mims said he was humbled by the decision and thankful for the vote of confidence the other commissioners placed in him.
“This is my third term to serve on the commission, and I never wanted to be chairman until this time,” Mims said. “In my opinion, the commission just elected will probably be facing four very tough years. We’ve got a lot of work cut out for us, but we’ll manage.”
Mims stressed the importance of finding new revenue sources and keeping a close check on existing funds.
Headley was elected to serve as vice chairman. Both he and Heedy Hayes were nominated for the position, and Headley won 4-3 with supporting votes from Allen Caton, Greg Moore, Red Turnipseed and himself.
Headley indicated he would continue to focus his efforts toward improving the county’s road system.
“I think it’s improved drastically in the last four years, and I think we’ll see it improve more in the next four,” he said.
