Registration for three short-term classes this fall at Jefferson State Community College in Clanton is today.

The classes are for two biology classes and a computer class, and both will held in the new Chilton-Clanton Instructional Site on Lay Dam Road in Clanton.

Those that want to join the classes just need to show up today between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the old McKinnon Toyota building, which has served as a temporary home for Jeff State until the building was completed.

Danielle Coburn, director of instructional sites, said the first day of classes would be Monday, Oct. 14.

“There is still plenty of room in the classes,” she said. “There are about 15 people in the biology classes and between five and seven in the computer class.”

Coburn said the biology classes have room for about 32 people while the computer class has room for 30 students.

The college has been meeting for several classes in the McKinnon Toyota building since August for its first semester until the education site was completed. About 100 students are already enrolled in classes.

One of the reasons why these last three classes didn’t begin in August was because of the absence of laboratories.

“These classes required labs,” she said. “They weren’t ready in August, so we are having this short term to get the classes in.”

The eight-week courses will continue until Dec. 11.
