Mary Mell Smith is proud to announce her candidacy for re-election to the Clanton City Council, Ward 5. She has served two terms and is very excited about the opportunity to continue the progress during a third term.

“I have enjoyed the past eight years, I have served on the council and I look forward to being a part of the exciting things to come in the next four years,” Smith said.

During her tenure on the council, she has served on the Fire Department and Police Department committees. She has graduated from Municipal Officer Training and the Chilton Leadership program offered by the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce. She also serves on the Chilton Water and Sewer Board, Chilton County Airport Authority and the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce Ambassador.

Smith is an active member of the First Baptist Church where she is the Director of the Weekday Education Ministry.

“I have been fortunate to get the chance to help mold the preschool education of children,” she added.

“A duty that I do not take lightly.”

She has been married to Bonny Smith for 47 years and together they have three sons, Kandall (Layle), Chris (Shellie) and Kyle (Stephanie); and nine grandchildren, Haliegh, Emily, Jacob, Phillip, Jackson, Anna, Harrison, Sam and Mary Grace.

“I got involved in politics because I wanted to be a part of making my community a better place to line and raise children, in a small atmosphere. I believe that we are on the right track to achieving these goals, but there is still work to be done,” Smith said.

She would like to thank everyone who has supported her over the past two terms as their council representative.

“I will continue to serve my constituents in a fair and responsible manner and I will work as hard as possible to continue the progress we have made over the past eight years,” she said.
