Double K Rodeo Productions and the Central Alabama Horse Club are teaming up to present the Clanton Southern Extreme Rodeo Aug. 7-8 at the Central Alabama Horse Club.
“It is going to be the rodeo of all rodeos,” Double K Rodeo Productions owner Cynthia Kimbrell said. “We want people to come out and have a good time.”
The rodeo will be presented by Don Walkers Western Wear, and is open to all ages with children ages 5 and under getting in free.
“This is a huge family event,” Kimbrell said. “We want people to come out and have a wonderful time. The great thing about a rodeo is it intrigues everyone. It doesn’t just attract people wanting to be a cowboy, but it attracts soccer moms, teenagers, and anyone who just wants to have a good time.”
The gates open at 5:30 p.m., and parking at the event is free of charge.
A kids’ “Mutton Bustin” for ages 10 and under will be held at 6:30 p.m., and the rodeo begins at 7:30 p.m.
Kimbrell said one of the main attractions is an opening salute to Old Glory with a prayer, the United States Army and United States Color Guard, and a song by Johnny Cash titled, “Ragged Old Flag.”
“We don’t care if we offend someone, but we are going to pray before the rodeo,” Kimbrell said. “The whole salute is pretty touching and is a pretty big deal. People need to try to arrive early so they don’t miss it. Friday nights are usually a good night to come, but Saturday nights are insane. We want the community to come out and enjoy a really great rodeo. We are going to try to pack the stands.”
The rodeo is sanctioned by SEBRA (Southern Extreme Bull Riding Association), which is the nation’s premier sanctioning body working to strengthen and sustain one of the world’s most exciting and dangerous sports, according to SEBRA’s website.
“It is going to be a really unbelievable show, and we can’t wait for people to come check it out,” Kimbrell said.

The Horse Club is located at 1010 County Road 453, near Interstate 65 Exit 212 and U.S. Highway 145.
