A 17-year-old Calera High School student died following a shooting in Chilton County on Jan. 21.
Parker Morris was pronounced dead at 10:40 a.m. Sunday, her mother, Elaine Walton, told the Shelby County Reporter.
Walton called a shooting incident at a residence just outside of Thorsby, near the intersection of County Road 50 and Highway 191, an “accident.”
Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis would only say the case is being treated as a “death investigation.”
Davis said Tuesday that an autopsy would be performed Wednesday morning and would determine the direction of the investigation. No update was available Wednesday on the outcome of the autopsy.
Davis said Morris appeared to have suffered a single gunshot.
Emergency responders treated Morris at Thorsby’s baseball field, where Morris’ friend drove her after the shooting.
“I think they were just panicked,” Davis said. “Instead of sitting there and calling 911, they put her in a car and took off toward town, and that’s just where they stopped.”
Morris was transported to Shelby Baptist Medical Center at 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 21
An informal Celebration of Life service will be held at Christian Life Fellowship Church, located at 7374 U.S. 31 in Calera, on Saturday, Jan. 28, beginning at 1 p.m. Friends and family are asked to bring pictures, videos, mementos, stories, etc., to contribute to the celebration of her life.
